Women's Health

Care for women at every stage of life, from contraception and pregnancy through to menopause

Contraception & coils

We offer advice on all methods of contraception, including the pill, injection, implant and coil (IUD and IUS). Coil fitting and implant insertion are carried out in the practice. Dr Claire Callaghan is a registered LARC tutor with the Irish College of General Practitioners.

Under the HSE Free Contraception Scheme, eligible people can access contraception consultations and prescribed contraception at no cost. The scheme covers women aged 17 to 35.

Menopause

Perimenopause and menopause can affect physical and emotional health in different ways. Your GP can talk through your symptoms, discuss treatment options including hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and arrange follow-up reviews.

You may wish to book a longer appointment for an initial menopause consultation.

Cervical screening

Free cervical screening tests are available through CervicalCheck, the national cervical screening programme. You will receive a letter when your test is due.

Pregnancy & postnatal care

Under the Maternity and Infant Care Scheme, care during pregnancy is shared between your GP and your maternity hospital, with GP visits for you and your baby after the birth. This scheme is free of charge to all women who are ordinarily resident in Ireland.
